ILMEA District and All State
Auditions for the ILMEA District Festivals will be held October 14. In the past, several students have participated in the festivals and had a great experience. Pictures from the 2018-19 season are below!
Jazz Band
Jazz Band is a select group of band students who perform at concerts and other events. Auditions will be held this fall.

Marching Blue JaysThe Marching Blue Jays have had a wonderful start to the season! They perform in four parades this year - GHS Homecoming, Mt. Vernon Fall Fest, GU Homecoming, and the Vandalia Halloween Parade. They took second place in the Mt. Vernon Fall Fest - quite an accomplishment! They will also perform at a Comets varsity football game. Before school started, they had band camp for all band and color guard members. A slideshow of pictures from camp and the parades is above! Special thanks to Mrs. McPeak, Mrs. Barth, and all parents for their help making Band Camp 2019 a success!

The Naturals
The Naturals is a select singing group at GJHS. They perform the national anthem at some sporting events and perform other songs at concerts and events. Auditions will be held this fall.

What are some music activities at GJHS?
The Band and Chorus have two concerts during the year - the Winter Concert will be Monday, December 9, 2019, and the Spring Concert will be Monday, May 4, 2020.
In the fall, Band and Chorus students in 7th or 8th grade can tryout for IMEA, a band and chorus selected from top students throughout the state. The concert is held in November. Band and Chorus students also participate in Solo and Ensemble Contest in the spring. |
How do Music classes work at the Jr. High? All 6th graders take Chorus. For 7th and 8th graders, Chorus is an elective. Band is an elective class for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
Chorus students may audition for The Naturals, a select singing group that performs at many events, including home sporting events. For more details, see Mr. Cox.

Chorus students may participate in the spring musical. Tryouts are held in the fall, and the performances are usually in March.
Band students are part of the Marching Blue Jays! Marching band begins in August and goes through the fall. The Marching Blue Jays attend several parades in and around Greenville and performed at one GHS football game with the GHS marching band. Head drum major for the 2019-20 school year is Rylee Waters, and drum majors are Abbi Doty and Camden Walker. |
